The exhibition is comprised of works produced in our Art and Design classes within the last year; student artwork was on display from Photography, Painting, Drawing, Digital Imaging, Metals, Sculpture, Three-Dimensional Design, Two-Dimensional Design, Color Theory, and Ceramics courses. Members of the art faculty selected works for the exhibit from approximately 400 submissions. The exhibit provides an opportunity for the college to recognize and support talented student artistry, celebrate the recent accomplishments of these artists, and illustrate the wide range of media explored while taking classes in these programs.Three art scholarships and a number of monetary awards were presented during a gallery reception held on April 15. The Don Lake Art Scholarship was awarded to Hyojin Jang (Urbana); the Underwood-Alger Art Scholarship went to Anora Johnson (Urbana), and a scholarship to attend a workshop at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Tennessee went to Nichole Sexton (Champaign). Monetary awards included the Dr. David M. and Shirley A. Jones Student Art Award for a work of outstanding artistic achievement, given to Zoya Kruse-Wu (Urbana); the Parkland President's Award, won by Benji Frazzetto (Champaign); the FAA Chair Award for excellence, given to Amira Mohamed (Champaign); the Faculty Award, to Cristina Latino (Gilman); the Metals Award of Artistic Distinction, to Tedra Ashley-Wannemuehler (Champaign); and the Art Coop Award, which went to Amanda Mulcahy (Champaign).
Several Purchase Awards were also presented for student artwork that will be included in the Parkland College Permanent Collection; these awards went to Jill Bullington (Urbana), Joseph Horton (Champaign), Ravishangar Kailasanathan (Champaign), Hyokwon Kwak (Champaign), Patricia Monigold (Champaign), and Ruta Rauber (Champaign).
Finally, Merit Awards were given for excellent work. These awards were presented to Katherine Anderson (Savoy), William Campo (Urbana), Hyojin Jang (Urbana), Rachael Johns (Champaign), Anora Johnson (Urbana), Leyla Klein (Urbana), Cristina Latino (Gilman), Cory Lillard (Champaign), Patricia Monigold (Champaign), Amanda Mulcahy (Champaign), Sergio Padilla (Champaign), Yumi Ra (Champaign), Rebecca Renwick (Champaign), Kim Ruckman (Mahomet), Judy Selen (Urbana), Shaheen Shorish (Champaign), Liddia Stevens (Urbana), Erin Warwick (Urbana), and Linda Weiner (Champaign). All events in the gallery are handicapped- accessible, free, and opened to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Monday-Thursday, 6-8 p.m.; and Saturday, 12 noon-2 p.m. To find the gallery when classes are in session, we suggest using the M parking lots. Enter through any door and follow the ramps uphill to the highest point, where the gallery is located. The gallery windows overlook the outdoor fountain area.
